Juergen Benson-Strohmayer Speaks at African Futures Institute

As part of the African Futures Institute's Local Works: A Conversation flagship lecture series, TAELON7's founder Juergen Benson-Strohmayer joined Dominique Petit-Frère of Limbo Accra for a conversation on architecture, incompleteness, and the potential of existing urban structures.

Titled Encounters between Limbo and Thresholds, the talk explored shared interests in adaptive spatial practices, material reuse, and the possibilities of working with what is already there. Drawing on their respective practices and collaborations, the conversation considered how architectural interventions can activate overlooked spaces, negotiate conditions of uncertainty, and create new opportunities for public life.

Set against Accra's evolving urban landscape, the discussion reflected on architecture as a practice of engagement rather than replacement, recognising the social, material, and spatial potential embedded in the existing city.

Professor Lesley Lokko introduced the conversation, which was moderated by Ama Ofori-Darko and Essé Dabla-Attikpo.
